What to Bring to Hendrix

Move-in day marks the beginning of new friendships, exciting opportunities, and unforgettable experiences. Use this packing list to help you arrive prepared and ready for your first adventure via Hendrix:

Each student is provided a bed, mattress, dresser, desk and chair, and internet jack. Additionally, each room is equipped with heat and air controls and mini blinds.

Mattresses may be a standard twin or twin XL, so purchase twin XL bedding to ensure the best fit.

  • Bedding, pillows, and a plastic mattress cover (to protect against spills)
  • Small area rug
  • Tension rod and curtains
  • Closet organizer
  • Storage bins
  • Small trash can and trash bags
  • Desk lamp (halogen and quartz lamps are not permitted)
  • Alarm clock
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Television and cable cord (if desired)
  • Games, movies, and music

  • Shower caddy
  • Shower shoes or flip-flops
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Personal hygiene products

  • High-efficiency liquid laundry detergent (no pods or 2-in-1 laundry sheets)
  • Fabric softener or dryer sheets
  • Laundry basket or bag
  • Cleaning supplies and disinfecting wipes
  • Iron or garment steamer

  • Computer and charging cables
  • Backpack or book bag
  • Binders and folders
  • Paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Stapler
  • USB flash drive
  • Headphones
  • Grounded surge protector
    • Note: Extension cords without circuit breakers are prohibited. Power strips must include built-in surge protection.

  • Microwave (1.5 cubic feet or smaller; energy efficient)
  • Mini refrigerator (4.6 cubic feet or smaller; energy efficient)
  • Snacks

  • One business or dress outfit for presentations and special events
  • Overnight bag for Orientation trip
  • Rain boots
  • Umbrella

  • Command hooks, removable adhesive strips, or sticky tack for decorating your room

  • First aid kit
  • Kleenex

Be careful when removing anything adhered to painted surfaces. Even products advertised as removable may damage walls. Students will be responsible for any paint damage caused by the removal of adhesive products.

Prohibited Items

Hendrix prohibits items that pose safety, fire, or security risks. Please review the categories below before packing for campus. 

  • Hot plates and other appliances with exposed heating elements
  • Toaster ovens
  • Air fryers
  • Indoor or outdoor grills

  • Extension cords
  • Extension boxes
  • Power strips that are not surge protectors

Permitted: Grounded surge protectors with built-in circuit breakers.

  • Candles
  • Incense
  • Fireworks
  • Flammable liquids or chemicals
  • Firearms, ammunition, or other weapons

  • Bed risers
  • Lava lamps
  • LED strip lights
  • Personal wireless routers
  • Drain cleaner (Drano or similar products)
  • Duct tape
  • Double-sided wall tape
  • Nails
  • Pushpins and thumbtacks

  • Laundry pods
  • All-in-one laundry sheets

  • Weightlifting equipment
  • Pets (except fish in aquariums of 20 gallons or less)
