Program Overview & Goals

The road to business success—whether at a tech start-up, nonprofit, or multinational corporation—requires a firm grasp of both the big picture and the foundational operational details.

In the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business degree program at Hendrix College, you have the opportunity to focus on both. Your classes in economics, accounting, finance, and strategy develop the analytical skills needed to make data-driven decisions. Our holistic liberal arts curriculum encourages you to go beyond the numbers to create a vision, communicate effectively, and become an impactful leader.

That combination is especially powerful, as the Business major can set you apart from the pack and prepare you for success in any industry. You bring the technical expertise every company requires, paired with the curiosity, creativity, and communication competencies that a liberal arts education uniquely develops.

Roadmap to the B.A. in Business Program

Every Business major takes classes in accounting, economics, and finance. Through experiential learning opportunities, you also get to think critically, problem solve, and consider the social, economic, and political factors affecting the marketplace.

Year One

Do not just start — start with purpose. Our First Year Experience gives you the freedom to discover what you care about most and find a path to get there. Your coursework this year allows you to master the foundations of accounting principles and economic theories. You also begin to learn key technology skills in leading platforms and tools that are driving data-driven economic and business analysis.

Year Two

In your second year, you will have a stronger vision of what your academic experience and career planning look like. Your integrated advising team of faculty, career counselors, and mentors will ensure that the things you study align with your future goals while still providing room to explore.

Year Three

Your third year includes a required full-time co-op. For one semester, you earn credit while applying knowledge from your coursework in a professional setting.

Year Four

Your last year is not the finish line; it is where everything starts. Complete the Corporate Strategies Capstone, an interdisciplinary course that challenges you to apply strategic thinking to evaluate how companies make decisions, compete in the marketplace, and drive performance. This rigorous Capstone experience blends theory and practice, positioning you for a confident launch into graduate studies or your first job.
