First Time Students

Activate Your Future as a First-Time Student
Hendrix is looking for curious, motivated students who are ready to ask big questions, pursue meaningful goals, and make the most of a liberal arts education.
We welcome students with a wide range of interests, talents, experiences, and backgrounds. You may have challenged yourself academically, taken on leadership roles, created change in your community, explored a passion outside the classroom, or simply shown a strong commitment to learning and growth. What matters is the full picture of who you are and where you hope to go next.
When we review your application, we know that you are more than grades and test scores. We look at your academic preparation, interests, accomplishments, character, and potential—what Hendrix has long called education “unto the whole person.”
Whether you already have a career path in mind or are still discovering what comes next, Hendrix is ready to help you build a path forward. Through a supportive community, close faculty mentorship, and opportunities to learn by doing, you’ll be prepared to step into the rooms where you belong.

Essay
Your application essay is your opportunity to share more about what makes you you! What are you passionate about? What drives you? The application essay helps our team to picture you on campus as a future Warrior.
Essay Prompts as provided by the Common App
- Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
- The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
- Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
- Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?
- Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
- Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
- Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you’ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.
The word limit on the essay is 650.
